pga tour prize money Golf Betting Tips & News

In the PGA, the tour golfers are set to make a lot of money during the 2025 season thanks to the PGA Tour prize money on offer. It is not just the betting favourites who make a significant amount of money through tournament earnings.

There are weekly events throughout the PGA Tour schedule, with players being able to earn $4,500,000 if they win an event. This was the case when Rory McIlroy won the Players Championship earlier this year in March. This makes the season very competitive between players of all skill levels. Looking at these previous winners during the season can help you make more informed decisions when it comes to golf betting.

How Does The PGA Tour Prize Money Work?

PGA Tour prize money is distributed based on finishing position, with the winner typically receiving a significant percentage of the total purse. Each PGA Tour Event on the schedule will have its dedicated prize purse, which is the overall amount of money available for the players to earn. Amounts will differ depending on the event. For example, an event like the Masters has a designated purse of $20million. However, an event like the Puerto Rico Open has a designated purse of only $4million.

The winner of each tournament will typically receive around 18% of the designated purse. The remaining prize money will be distributed to the other players in the event based on their finishing position. When players are tied in a position, the prize money is then calculated by combining the prize money for all tied positions and dividing it by the number of players that are in the tie. For example, if there are three players tied for second, their prize money would be the combined prize money for second, third and fourth place, divided by three. Many tournaments on the PGA Tour also have a cut line; on Friday, players who shoot a specific score are eligible to compete in the final two rounds. The players who do make the cut receive prize money regardless of what position they finish in.
